Welcome to Marwen

Plot:
Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carrell), a victim of a brutal attack, finds a unique way to help him through his recovery process.

Pros:
•Steve Carrell does give a good performance. He’s the only reason I’m not giving this movie a MUCH lower rating. Bless his heart, he’s doing his best given the script he has to work with.

Cons:
•*sigh* Where do I even begin? Everything the reviews have been saying are right. This movie is bad. Really bad. Which is sad because the true story the movie is interesting and tragic. More time should’ve been spent on the real people. Instead you spend a majority of the movie with the dolls and their World War 2 subplot. I’m fine with the dolls being there  to enhance Mark’s story but this was way too much. Very disappointed.
•Robert Zemeckis just couldn’t resist his hard on for special effects.
•So fucking offensive in the way they handled PTSD and addiction.
•Terrible dialog.
•No offense to Leslie Mann, but her character was one of the worst I’ve seen in awhile.
•Don’t waste your time with this movie. Instead watch the documentary that’s out there. Haven’t had a chance to see it yet but I’ve heard good things.

My Rating: 4/10
